2013 Blizzard Black Pearl Review - Women's All Mountain Ski
The Blizzard Black Pearl (Now only $480! Click Here) Women's Ski became an instant hit at the Start Haus as soon as our testers got on it - and if you look around the web, you'll find testers from magazines, blogs and other sites feel the same.
Credit goes to what Blizzard calls "Flipcore" construction and what we call one of the best applications of rocker in an all mountain ski - a subtle rocker-camber-rocker profile that blends together when turned on edge and doesn't flap at speed.
Here's what on of our testers, Quincy, had to say:
Much like the wider Blizzard Kabookie, the Blizzard Black Pearl leaves out the metal laminate to reduce weight, stiffness and liven up the ski, but it's no wimp either (Blizzard made a real ski for women, not taking the "shrink it and pink it" approach)
Our testers put the Black Pearl's through their paces in every condition we could find - groomers, crud, variable snow and even powder - and like the Blizzard Bonafide on the men's side - these skis had an uncanny ability to do well no matter what.
Start Haus ski tester Trish, "Treckchick" over on Epicski.com, had this to say:
"At first I was skeptical about an 88 mm underfoot ski having rocker, and even more that it could be a daily driver, but the Black Pearl quickly proved me wrong. It was easy to transition from short to medium to long radius turns, forgiving through rollers and grippy on firm snow. This is truly a daily driver that any woman would love!"
Then after a 3-foot storm in Tahoe she added:
"The bad news was I loaned my powder skis out, but the good news is I found out how awesome the Black Pearls could be in deep powder!"
