Free Friday Night Stand Up Paddle Board Races

The Start Haus and the Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District will host free stand up paddle board race on Friday, May 24 to kick off a summer of community paddling events.

Known as the Truckee-Tahoe region’s leading ski shop, the Start Haus now carries an unrivaled selection of stand up paddle boards for summer fun and cross training. This kick-off event and the following Friday-night races are a perfect opportunity to get into this quickly growing sport, or to try a new board for those looking to upgrade. Races will be held on Donner Lake’s West End Beach from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Friday, weather permitting.

“We want to offer a free, fun community event every Friday to get people out on the water,” said Jared Licht, who heads up the Start Haus’ stand up paddle board program. “Stand up paddle boarding is a fun, easily accessible sport perfect for the Truckee Tahoe area, and makes for great cross-training in the summer for skiers and boarders.”

Free Friday evening races, with boards provided by the Start Haus, will continue throughout the summer, with men’s, women’s and children’s categories, and great giveaways at each event.

The Start Haus will have stand up paddle boards for sale and for rental throughout the summer, along with paddles, PFDs, and all the necessary accessories to get out on the water.
