Why Ski Racers Need to Shop Early This Year
The fall season is upon us in Tahoe and at Start Haus - that means it’s almost ski race season. While most ski racers won’t be on snow until at least the early camps at Copper, everyone is thinking right now about their race gear for the upcoming year.
We will be carrying all the major race ski and race ski boot brands, but supplies will be limited (due to a down economy in Europe and a lackluster winter last year in the U.S.). While we are always glad to try to order that special ski brand, model, and size for you at any time, we are being told that after the initial shipments, there will be very little available from most of the suppliers. Be advised that some manufacturers are already sold out of some ski models or sizes.
This fall, the watchword for ski race equipment is going to be “shop early”. We are planning to have our open house weekend for racers on October 20-21. The open house weekend is a great opportunity to meet the race ski reps from the major suppliers and to meet and greet with the other racers and all your coaches and several USST athletes.
Of course it is always “race night” at the Start Haus and racer discounts on race skis, bindings and boots applies any time. Also keep in mind that your racers can get 10 percent off of their all mountain skis and bindings, and the kids on the freeride/big mountain teams get a competition discount as well.
Footnote on Jr. Speed skis:
Typically, most families have waited until late December or even January to start thinking about the possibility of your racers getting into the “Big G” or “Super G”. This season, you need to start thinking about getting Jr. Super G skis now. Some manufacturers are already sold out with no more available. Check with your coaches to see if your racers will need Jr. Super G skis this coming season.
