Although we are heading into winter, and skiing is on the brain, we are already prepping for 2025 bike season. This spring we are excited to have a full stock of Ibis bikes at the shop ready to ride. Join world-renowned ski racer Travis Ganong and Start Haus lead tech Brandon Sims for an evening of ski tech and tuning. Hear directly from Ganong on how he wants his ski to be teched for a World Cup race as Sims explains his philosophy for tuning skis for race day based on conditions and the athlete. The event, hosted at Start Haus, is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be recorded and live-streamed on the Start Haus website.

Welcome to the team Travis!

We are thrilled to announce a partnership with world-renowned ski race athlete, and Tahoe local, Travis Ganong. This partnership upholds our goal of supporting local athletes and our commitment to providing the best ski and bootfitting services in the Tahoe area. From the casual skier to the elite competitor, everyone deserves to slide on snow with skis and boots that fit them and maximize their day on the mountain. 

In addition, this partnership provides an opportunity for us to share our passion for snowsports with the local community. We've collaborated with Travis to host a four-date event series this winter. Several of the planned events will include a live stream on our website allowing you to tune in from anywhere. See details below.

We are excited to announce that we are now an Aventon eBike dealer!

Aventon was created with the mantra of enabling people to find happiness through motion. When they started producing bikes in 2013 their focus was on the fixie which shifted to the electric bike market in 2018. Now their fleet boasts something for everyone from lightweight models to all-terrain ebikes providing a little something for everyone.

On Tuesday, June 27 the shop will be closed due to our parking lot being repaved. While we never like to close the shop, being open when repaving is happening is a very unpleasant experience for both our employees and customers... trust us, we've tried.

Thank you for your understanding! We will reopen with regular hours on Wednesday, June 28.

In celebration of the 4th of July, the shop will also be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Ski, paddle, pedal, there are so many options in Tahoe this year, we hope you can get outside and enjoy the holiday too! We will reopen on Wednesday, July 5 with regular hours.

Its that time of year once again to bring us your consignment ski’s and race suits!  Crack open the attic, move the bags out of the garage, and bring your used (and in decent condition) recreational ski, race skis, adult skis, junior skis, and race suits down to Start Haus. 

We’ll help you price the gear to sell and you choose either 70% store credit or 60% cash in the form of a check.

We’re taking in skis now and space will be limited- get your skis in today!  Sale happens over Labor Day Weekend 2021- that’s Friday August 3rd to Monday September 6th.

It has been a whirlwind year and a half since we were first affected by Covid-19. In March 2020 when ski areas closed and the stay-at-home order went into effect, the futures of Start Haus and many other local businesses were unknown. We operated online-only and asked our customers for help.

The local ski and bike communities overwhelmed us with support, from online orders to gift card purchases, and we're very thankful to everyone who helped us keep the doors open. We were able to reopen the brick-and-mortar store in accordance with CDC, state, and county guidelines by installing ventilation fans, requiring masks, reducing capacity, cleaning often, and switching to an appointment system for boot fitting.

On June 15th, California ended the stay-at-home order and posted new guidance regarding the pandemic. If you've visited our shop in the last two weeks, you may have noticed some changes in accordance! All of our employees are fully vaccinated, and we are no longer requiring masks to be

Can you believe it's already March? With mixed precipitation in the forecast, rising temps and longer days, spring skiing is just around the corner. As such, we have already begun receiving bikes from Evil and Giant, and early-release 2022 skis from Volkl (we have tried them and have plenty to say- stay tuned).
